Autumn has certainly taken over the field. The last flash of color reminds us of the turning year, year in and out. The plants that prospered, those resilient enough to withstand the changing conditions, will move quietly towards their winter dormancy until the spring. Others that did not fare as well will surrender themselves to the earth as the field re-wilds.
We explore the land for the changes we expect to see in September. The seed pods, the insects, the birds forming flocks for autumn roosting.
While coyotes hunt the long grasses for the burrowing bunnies, the doe and her fawn appear and disappear along the woody trails. All is well and as it should be.
