Farm Journal ~ December
All the leaves have fallen and will provide mulch and insulation for the blueberry plants. Buds have been set for the spring. Dormancy has begun. There are still Bluebirds and Flickers and Sparrows gathering seeds, which are abundant. Flocks move cautiously under the watchful eyes of the resident Red-tailed Hawk and the murder of Crows- whose numbers increase at the slightest provocation imagined slight out in their field. There are no Turkeys in sight anywhere though we have seen their tracks occasionally. Our neighbor's trail camera has revealed the daily presence of a small pack of coyotes, deer, opossums, and raccoons, possibly a fisher.
It is otherwise quiet and still as we move toward the Winter Solstice in the weeks ahead.
