Archive-Early April 2010
Early April
The blueberry plants are now breaking buds. They love the sun, the warmth, and all the rain.
As we mentioned last month, each of the 1,500 high bush blueberry plants on the farm is pruned twice every spring, with large and small cuts, to maintain the health of the plants and encourage new growth. This is one of the reasons cultivated berries are larger and sweeter than wild ones. Prune your plants at home now if you have any. (See video.)
Since the pruning takes about three months, I have helpers.
