Farm Journal- March
Picture

March, that season of the whole air hesitating and blowing back and forth... it is waiting weather. So our friend John Hay wrote 60 years ago. It is as true today. But still, we love March. It is a month full of transformation.

Already we can see the change in the long quiet rows of blueberries. They have shed their winter crimson and ever so gradually are taking on spring's amber glow. Things are at work more invisible to the eye, beneath the ground and along the many-tiered branches. We will start pruning them by mid-month.

Although the winter has been far more temperate than most the plants achieved their chill requirement for full dormancy and are preparing for spring's re-growth. We have see many flocks of robins and the bluebirds are ever present. There is a lingering scent of skunk along the muddy, rutted wood trails. Ah, spring returns.

Join us at Meet Your Farmer Day, Saturday March 25th, from 12 to 3pm, at the Harwich Community Center.
