Farm Journal- November
November is all about the change in light. The plants feel it as much as we do. It triggers their actions, along with but a little more than the temperature. This month the leaves will continue to change color as chlorophyll production stops. Then the leaves will drop off. The plants will have finished setting buds for next season during this transition.
The weather has been kind to them this fall. Wonderful days of warm temperatures and sunshine, with just enough but not too much rain. It takes time to restore themselves after a busy spring and summer of berry production. Soon they will enter dormancy, their long and much deserved winter's rest. They will be snuggled in under a layer of leaf mulch to keep them warm.
We hope the Farmer's Almanac prediction for a mild winter will hold true, but that's just us, not necessarily the blueberries'.
