Farm Journal- May
The merry month of May is upon us, when blueberry flowers bloom! We are still steadily pruning, weather permitting. Bumblebees cruise past in search of nectar which will not be long in coming. Some of the plants have small clusters of flowers on the verge of opening while most are a week or more away.
This staggered growth among the different varieties of our 1,500 blueberry plants is part of why our farm can be open for six weeks or more every summer. And the plants look great this year. As we await our flowers, fortunately, we have plenty of flowering weeds to keep the bees happily occupied. Yes, they can be a real nuisance but for now they have the run of the place.
