Farm Journal- March
Our friend John Hay referred to this season between late winter and early spring as "waiting weather." We couldn't agree more. Even so, this winter has been different and there is no telling what's ahead for our spring.
In keeping with tradition, we begin pruning this month. Notice the tell-tale color change that began subtly in February- an orange hue is more apparent on the plants, replacing winter's crimson red. This is a sign of spring for us here at the farm. The change of color means that the blueberry plants are responding to the stronger light and warmer temperatures. They are awakening from their long winter's sleep, right on schedule... so far, so good!
