Farm Journal- January 2018
A frigid start to the new year of 2018. The blueberry plants can stand the cold better than we. They are in the depths of their dormancy, all sap drawn deep within, roots insulated by a thick layer of mulch and snow. It is their branches we worry about if there is wind, but so far we have been lucky.
Just last week the resident crows and red-tailed hawk were up to their usual territorial mischief in the trees and overhead- it almost seems at times that they enjoy their disputes. A flock of bluebirds chirped merrily past. But now it is so quiet. We hope for their endurance in this Arctic time.
We hope too for a January thaw.
