Farm Journal- April
Pruning has begun. We usually start at the end of March or beginning of April. This is the only time of year to prune blueberries. The rain has held us up so we will be taking good advantage of any and every nice day ahead.
The yellow flag means the big pruning cuts have been done on this row and the next round is pending. Note the soft amber color of the branches now that dormancy is passed. Vital fluids are circulating from the roots and the sun is at work on the buds.
New growth has a pale yellow cast in the lower canes.
The field is flush with robins, bluebirds, and turkeys as insects reappear.
