Farm Journal- April
April is our most intensive pruning month, though we will be pruning well into May. It is easier to make pruning decisions before all the leaves and buds open. Three flags at the end of a row mean there are three levels of pruning yet to take place- large, medium, and fine cuts.
People have been asking how the blueberry bushes look this year. Our answer- they look excellent. Well out of winter's dormancy now, all the plants are a pale shade of yellow. Gone are the crimson red canes, as sap moves back into the stalks and branches. Buds were set in the fall and with spring's warm sun they will soon begin to open.
