Farm Journal- June
The blueberry plants look strong and healthy this year. They are still in flower and will continue to be pollinated early this month, mostly by our Bumblebees. Berries are forming on some of the early plants and all across the field delicate green leaves are serious about filling out to do their work. There is a little evidence of Winter Moth but hopefully not enough to wreck havoc on the plants- their arrival is a bit late for that.
We are still pruning! The weather has slowed our progress for the past two months but we will soon be done and gratefully so. Thanks to Dave, our dedicated helper.
The grass is growing tall in the meadow where wild Lupine are blooming. Our native Milkweed is standing tall alongside the invasive Mugwort. And among the rows there is always the low growing Purple Dead Nettle and Henbit weeds. We are more fond of the lovely Red Sorrel and tall Dandelions along the post lines. Monarchs are flitting about. White-tailed deer and Turkeys, Red-tailed hawks and Osprey, Bluebirds, Doves, Swallows, and Flickers. The farm is beautiful in the month of June as we approach the summer solstice.
