Farm Journal ~ September
September has arrived at the farm with its spectral light and more forgiving temperatures. The fields are as dry and brittle and brown as we would expect from a drought year. The blueberry plants, however, are still green, only due to the wonders of drip-irrigation. We have provided quite a bit more than usual this summer.
There is not a blueberry in sight. The leaves are taking on their fall colors here and there. The nets are down. Our birds will forage happily now, without their, or our, interference, for grasshoppers, crickets, and fallen seeds. Ah... September.
