Farm Journal- October
September passed without feeling like September at all. There is so much to distract us in the headlines yet there was little of fall's beauty to capture our scattered attention. Let's hope for more autumnal glory in this usually spectacular month of October.
The goldenrod and asters have the bumblebee's complete attention. Flocks of starlings cry raucously from treetops and scatter acorns in their frenzied flight.
Our entomologist has captured many Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs out in the field. We are still out there ourselves weeding among the rows of blueberries which are still growing strong and readying to set their spring buds. The light is soft, the days shortening, the air cool yet humid in this time of transition.
