Farm Journal- January 2024

Bailey is wondering just who gets to do all this digging at the farm...strictly forbidden for him.
The turkeys have continued with their intensive weeding efforts, when we aren't looking that is. As we mentioned last month, we have never seen anything like it. What are they after and why this year? Admittedly, we did have a lot of weeds.
It is a good thing we are winding down at the farm otherwise we'd be worried. We would have to be filling all the holes with soil and mulch on a daily basis. We are uncertain about the damage it might be causing the plants.
The plants are in full dormancy now but some of the roots are getting exposed. If we have frigid temperatures over the next couple of months there may very well be some loss. Only time will tell.
Other than that mystery, things are pretty quiet and lovely as usual with the bare and deep crimson canes glowing in the low winter light of a new year.
