The color of the canes is growing paler which is the first sign the blueberry plants are coming out of their dormancy. It has not been a cold winter, but their chilling requirement, the ratio of cold to temperate days, is sufficiently met over three or four months.
The holes created by the roving turkey flocks have taken on a measured appearance, as if this was intended after all. So neat and orderly, if mysterious. We hope the roots have not been overly exposed for the plants' health.
Only time will tell. The plants look well enough after this intrusion on their winter nap.
