Farm Journal- May
The blueberry buds and their accompanying leaflets are opening under the warming rays of the spring sun. The field is that particular shade of spring green, signifying new growth, that we love to see.
Buds are plentiful this year and the plants look healthy and strong. It was a long winter and spring took its time settling in. Now it's time for up to catch up.
Our pruning efforts are in full swing and we're happy to be back out in the field. We will be doing a little less pruning this year since we are about a month behind. If you have any blueberry plants of your own, now is the time to prune them, 25-30% annually.
"Our" entomologist, Larry Dapsis, has been collecting his spring samples and so far the Winter moth seems to have passed us by. Larry will be joining us for an open house/farm tour here sponsored by Dennis Conservation Trust on Sunday May 20th, from 10-11. We will be giving a book talk and signing at Dennis Memorial Library on Saturday, May 12th, at 2pm and at the Eastham Library on Tuesday, May 22nd at 6:30.
Hope you can make it to one of these events- Happy Spring!
