Farm Journal- July
Everyone is commenting that they have never seen so many blueberries out in the field. It truly is an abundant crop this year that seems to grow more delicious by the day. The humidity has plumped the berries and the sun has sweetened them.
So far we have seen absolutely no sign of the Asian fruit fly we were so worried about last summer. The Barnstable County entomologist has been keeping a watchful eye on all the farms on Cape Cod, gathering weekly samples to bring back to his lab. There is no explanation for their absence but it is one we welcome and hope continues.
It is always a good feeling when we hang the sign out front every summer, open the gates, and welcome old and new friends into the field. It can't get much better.
We will be picking through the month and into the first week of August.
Hope to see you out there!
