Farm Journal ~ May
The blueberry bushes are leafing out and the berry buds opening all across the field. "Apparelled in celestial light," in the words of Wordsworth, who wrote so eloquently of spring.
May 1st is Beltane, the celebration of life's renewal and the balance of male and female elements that brings forth new life.
As we alluded to last month, the weeds are prolific and doing an excellent job of filling in the holes left by our marauding turkey flocks. The plants look strong and healthy. Along with this mysterious new challenge, they face another year of no pruning, no mulching, no pest control, no nets; only sunlight, water, and love. They are doing well so far.
