Farm Journal- December
The blueberry plants have entered their dormant stage, evident by the loss of leaves and burnished red canes. They need their rest after all their long months of work. The temperate weather has not effected any change in their internal clocks though we have had to add an extra week or two of weeding.
The winter moth has made its appearance, flitting about among the trees. We have not seen them in the fields but they are no doubt there preparing for spring's mischief or mayhem.
We are just now entering the winter season and as we do I am always reminded that the winter solstice on Dec. 22nd, the darkest day of the year, literally marks the beginning of light's return- something to celebrate... Happy Holidays everyone!
