Farm Journal- March
It is with a sense of disbelief as well as relief that we enter the month of March. Could it really be true that this mild winter will be all there is to it? We have had snows in March but rarely and they don't last long. The sun is warmer every day and the days longer. Last night we heard spring peepers in the bog down the road- what a beautiful sound. And the bluebirds were happily flitting about all day long.
The blueberries have not come out of dormancy yet- the canes are still red- but we expect it by mid-month. Pruning beckons. We are always anxious to get out in the field and do some work after our own winter dormancy. We do not plan to start our pruning until we are quite sure that the cold, windy, snow-filled days are behind us.
