Farm Journal ~ October

The weeds haven't exactly taken over the field but they are happy to be left alone for a change. Beautiful in their own right, and some like Dandelions quite beneficial, they will remain mostly unmowed this year. We do mow paths to walk around the perimeter and at least once more between the rows, just for the sake of decorum, but this year, as you know, things are a bit different here as we wind down.
This will also be our first fall without mulching. We are in the early days of leaf coloration as the blueberry plants are still collecting sunlight as they set their spring buds. Their work will be done by month's end and then the leaves will color up and drop, providing their own layer of fresh, unseasoned, mulch.
