Farm Journal- December
The blueberry plants are bedded down with a deep layer of leaf mulch for the winter. They have entered their dormancy, or botanical hibernation, until early next spring. (You can read more about that in our book!) Our work on their behalf is finished for the year.
We did not experience any of the premature leaf drop we had in the lower field last fall. This is a big relief. The plants look vibrantly healthy, now conserving their energy, their fruit buds set for the spring.
The canes are all a uniform crimson, a brilliant sight under a bright blue sky; weathered netting posts and canopy stand in sharp, yet harmonious, contrast.
We enjoyed seeing so many friends at the CMOA during the Dennis Village Stroll. We were honored to be included in the gathering.
