Farm Journal- December
As we move toward the winter solstice, the leaves have all fallen to the earth, losing the sustaining hours of sunlight and nourishing sap that encouraged their growth. Each blueberry bush draws its resources deep within to enter its winter dormancy. Now the tips of the branches turn crimson and the canes a stark silvery grey.
Rest is essential after a year of work with its many challenges and its full bounty. The farm is still magical in its quiet time- as you walk the rows you can almost hear the plants breathing softly in their deepening sleep.
Although we can't sleep all winter- though we'd like to sometimes- we have certainly slowed down and that is good enough.
